I have a soft spot for Brighton. I loved the place long before I had even visited it. To me it embodies the chic English style of the old times with its classic beach huts. So I am always up for a cheeky getaway. This time my lovely friend Jordan invited us to stay the weekend at his super coming-out-of-a-fairy-tale house. After the poor choice we made last night it’s now time to make up for it. I wouldn’t have it any other way than coming to the excellent seafood and oyster restaurant English’s of Brighton.

Smack bang in the middle of the lovely Lanes and just a few steps from the beach, there is this charming restaurant that opens throughout the day. In a vibrant square full of people and live music, with only a few tables outside, booking is highly advisable.

English’s of Brighton – The Lanes

Lip smacking fishy goodness

Here you know you are in a fine restaurant where they take great care of the service. All the staff are very nice and attentive, nothing will be missing on your table and your drink will always be full.

You can order à-la-carte or go with the set menus: two courses for £19.50 or three for £24.50. Don’t be afraid, everything is of the best quality.

The lobster croquettes are fantastic, crispy on the outside, and soft inside, with a very tasty and subtle flavour. I am hooked on the tempura oyster with their fine dipping sauce. And the mussels… Well, those mussels are the reason I always come back, their wine and cream sauce is the best I have ever had in my life. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it.

And for the mains, my fauvorites are the whole crab and the sea bass with black pepper risotto. They are so goddamn good.

It won’t take me long to come back down to Brighton and when I do I will surely be heading to English’s again, you can bet your bottom dollar.
