If you’re travelling to the town that gave the famous wine its name, write down these MUST DOs to make the most of your days and don’t miss anything:

1. Walk around Avenida dos Aliados, where you can find the City Council.

2. Visit the Sé Catedral and its lookout.

11. Visit the Imperial McDonald’s of Porto, considered the most beautiful McDonald’s in the world in 2016.

13. Have a cocktail at Porto Cruz, the coolest rooftop in town to have some drinks with dream views.

    

14. Listen to the best live music while having tasty tapas at Rua Tapas Bar.

15. Have cañas at 50 cents at the 77 bar.

16. Buy a traditional sardine can with your birth date inscribed on it at Casa Oriental and see who you’re sharing your birthday with.

    

17. Try the Pastéis de Nata, the traditional Portuguese dessert.

18. Go to an FC Oporto game like a local at the Estádio do Dragão.

19. Contemplate the creative graffiti around Porto, where the old and the street art are wonderfully well mixed.

    

20. Visit Livraria Lello, the bookshop where JK Rowling got inspired to write Harry Potter when she was living in Porto.

21. Go shopping around Rua Santa Catarina.

22. Visit Espinho, Matosinhos, Vila do Conde or Miramar, beautiful beaches just a few minutes drive from town.

    

23. Take a ride on the cable car for only a fiver from the bridge to the Ribeira, flying over the wine cellars!

24. Visit the Mercado do Bolhao market with lots of inexpensive stalls where you’ll find fresh produce, meat, fish and flowers.

25. Visit the Palácio de Cristal gardens, where the peacocks roam around freely and you can feed them. They also do book fairs and concerts!

26. Visit the Palácio da Bolsa, by the Ribeira. For around €7 you can contemplate its majestic ceilings.

27. Arm yourself with patiente and get a sandwich from the famous Casa Guedes, in Praça dos Poveiros. The “bifana” sandwich is a MUST HAVE in Porto.

1. Porto airport is super modern, and even an ecologic vegetable garden is grown at the airport to feed their staff!
